DanceWorks LLC is seeking a dependable, self-directed team member to support our community and drive the DanceWorks New York City mission & core values. More than one person may be hired for the job responsibilities, or one person may be hired to take on all responsibilities. Compensation will reflect the amount of responsibilities the team member(s) takes on.

This is flexible, part-time, remote role focused on program management, marketing, and creative directing. It requires strong self-management, reliability, availability during regular business hours (subject to responsibilities), plus occasional evenings/weekends for events. Serious candidates are dancers that are based in the NYC area, believe in the DanceWorks mission & core values, and take pride in being self-motivated, dependable, organized, accountable & solution oriented.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the team member will be a trusted part of the leadership team. This position will also work closely with choreographers, dancers, and DanceWorks New York City independent contractors to oversee day-to-day operations. They will be a key leader of DanceWorks New York City dedicated to the advancement of the company’s initiatives.

  • The work is part-time (estimated 20 hours per week). Hours vary depending on how many responsibilities the team member takes on and the season’s calendar. Specifically:

    • A majority of work hours are remote, work-from-home, with other hours physically on-site in the dance studios, theater, or photoshoot locations for event-based work.

    • Event-based work is usually in the evenings/weekends for rehearsals, shows, auditions, photoshoots, and community events.

    • Candidates must be able to commit to pre-planned scheduled events without last-minute cancellations.

    • Availability during business hours (ideally at least 10 hours available between 9am-5pm, Monday - Friday, subject to responsibilities)

    • Some weeks may include a few flexible hours of independent work, while others may involve longer days supporting events or deadlines. Being able to shift, plan, and prioritize in advance is key.

  • Paid time off (PTO) of two weeks (14 days) per year is allotted for sick, personal, and vacation time. PTO is expected to be planned in advance around the season’s calendar of events.

  • This job does not offer healthcare benefits or 401(k).

  • Tuition is complimentary if auditioning, choreographing, or dancing in the season.

  • Compensation for the role is dependent upon how many responsibilities the team member takes on. Salary or hourly pay will depend upon the responsibilities. Yearly bonus opportunities possible with a subjective overall review by the Executive Director.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 2-4 years professional work experience.

  • Resident in/around NYC area (with plans to maintain NYC residency for the duration of the role).

  • Serious candidates must have time to accommodate a part-time job with at least 10 hours a week logged Monday-Friday (9am-5pm, subject to responsibilities). Nights and weekends for events are expected.

  • Ideal candidates will have flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule and have a supplemental job in tandem with this position.

  • Expert level of proficiency using technology and a variety of software and apps including: Google Workplace, Microsoft products, social media, web-based marketing, email, design, website, music, file sharing, and video tools and apps.

  • Applicants that bring additional expertise in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, programming, data science, analytics, graphic design, video production, learning and development, teaching, public speaking, consulting, art, fitness, retail, social media, or PR a plus.

  • Experience as a dancer/choreographer within DanceWorks New York City or DanceWorks Boston, not required, but a plus.

ADMINISTRATIVE & LEADERSHIP SKILLS

  • Previous experience planning special events, performances, overseeing large productions/groups/communities, or leading a group of at least 30 or more individuals.

  • Dance/Fitness-based leadership experience is recommended. Experience with business administration, customer support, or working with small businesses a plus. Experience with social media, marketing, sales, commission-based jobs a plus.

  • Can give and take direction effectively; excellent interpersonal skills; peer-to-peer leadership & community building; forward-thinking problem-solvers and comfortable with conflict resolution.

  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks efficiently, adapt quickly to new situations, & work well under pressure.

  • Comfortable speaking publicly to a group of 20-500+ people; show poise and confidence in public speaking along with being motivational.

  • Champion a culture of inclusivity by ensuring programming, communications, and community engagement efforts reflect and celebrate diverse identities, backgrounds, and body types.

  • Ability to plan ahead and anticipate the needs of dancers, choreographers, and scheduling.

  • Ensure tasks and deadlines are met without close supervision while keeping members of the team updated.

  • Be present and engaged during scheduled events or key moments as a trusted partner.

BRAND MARKETING SKILLS

  • Exceptional marketing, branding, and communication skills; both written & verbal; start-up and grassroots programming a plus.

  • Exceptional understanding of social media channels and analytics for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

  • Identify current social media trends and apply insights to create timely, engaging content.

  • Strong artistic eye with experience in creating engaging visual content and design.

  • Proficiency in graphic design and website development, including digital advertising and SEO across platforms.

  • Familiarity with local NYC colleges & universities, local dance schools, & studios in and around NYC.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Advanced dance training and performance history in a variety of genres (mainly jazz, tap, hip hip, heels, contemporary, and ballet).

  • Choreography experience.

  • Physically capable of lifting/carrying a minimum of 35 lbs while walking and going up or down stairs.

  • Physically capable of performing athletic dance routines, and standing for long durations of time both indoors and outdoors.


Key Responsibilities:

It is possible to be interested in a few (or all) of the responsibilities listed below. The job title will be aligned with the tasks that the team member takes on. Training sessions (virtual and in person) will be implemented to learn systems, policies, & procedures.

  1. Create the season’s calendar of events with the Executive Director.

  2. Educate and enforce DanceWorks policies & Core Values.

  3. Serve as a primary liaison for choreographers, managing communications, deliverables, deadlines, and tech day.

  4. Assist with the administrative prep, execution, and post work for: (1) Choreographer Auditions, (2) Workshops, (3) Dancer Auditions, (4) Community Events, (5) FeedbackWorks, (6) Photoshoots, (7) CostumeWorks, (8) Tech, (9) Shows, and (10) First Week of Rehearsals from start to finish with the goal to take on several events and tasks independently.

  5. Choreograph the finale dance - produce and edit the video tutorial, provide lighting design scheme, and lead finale review at tech.

  6. Direct PhotoWorks - including scouting locations, themes, outfit guidelines, poses, content, and post shoot logistics with photographer and graphic design team to produce and deliver high-quality digital assets.

  7. Capture, edit, and produce digital content across all events to support marketing, brand strategy, and center the choreographer’s and dancer’s talent and impact on the community.

  8. Develop and execute social media and digital marketing strategies to grow audience engagement, brand visibility, recruitment, and ticket sales.

  9. Coordinate with creative partners (videographers, photographers, graphic designers) to produce, deliver, and release high-quality content.

  10. Manage online platforms including social media, direct messages, website updates, email campaigns, and video distribution.

  11. Contribute to creative direction at shows, auditions, photoshoots, and other visual branding (including apparel, the program book, web design, and user experience both in-person and digitally).

  12. Drive community engagement through outreach, recruitment, and relationship-building with dancers, choreographers, and alumni.

  13. Plan community-building events and initiatives that foster connection, inclusivity, and fun.

  14. Identify and support external performance opportunities, partnerships, and public relations efforts to expand organizational reach.
